PONY EXPRESS NEWS

Howdy Folks!

*****These past two weeks have been so much fun! Our Chocolate Breakfast was a HUGE success, thanks to all of YOU! All the goodies you sent with your cowpoke were much appreciated. The boys and girls had the best time, and I'm sure this will be an event they will always remember and treasure. Thanks to all those parents who came in and helped me. This day would have been a DISASTER without you!

*****Battle of the Books was another activity that took place. Hats off to Jan Christensen for hosting this event and making sure things ran smoothly. Not only was this fun for all involved, but the learning that took place was unbelievable. The children worked in teams using problem solving skills to come up with answers fired at them from the judges. Comprehension was the key in this event and I'm proud to say our class took all 3 places, third, second and first place! YEE HAW! Thanks to all of the parent volunteers who helped make this event possible. We are so fortunate to have all of you give up your time for this activity. Jan Christensen is one in a million....and that's a fact!

*****Spring Break is just around the corner. I hope all of you have a fantastic time with your families. I love each and everyone of you. :o)

Always,
Mrs. Miyake

Last week's Sheriff had a blast taking care of business and showing her daddy she can dress up as a "fire"girl too! Take a look at the pictures below. This rootin' tootin' fireman couldn't have been more fun!

Tool Day At Willow Canyon

Willow Canyon's annual Tool Day was another success! A big THANK YOU to all of our presenters! The students had a lot of fun while learning about different occupations. These parents all had a positive influence on the boys and girls. What a great opportunity for our youth to see the different types of jobs available and how important school is at attaining these professions.

Howdy Parents!

*****Our Chocolate Breakfast is coming up soon! We're nearing the finish line of this independent reading program and all completed forms need to be updated and turned in to me this Thursday, March 8th. The Chocolate Breakfast will be held on March 16th. OH! WHAT FUN! It's a child's dream! Lots of activities have been planned for this much anticipated event, and I know EVERYONE is going to make it! Tables will be loaded with yummy pastries, a milkshake bar, a chocolate fountain, and much, much more! I can hardly wait!

*****Just a reminder that this coming week will be SEP Conferences. The boys and girls have many interesting and exciting projects on display in our room. On Monday, check inside your child's homework folder for an envelope which contains his/her report card and a confirmation time and date. Let me know if you're unable to keep this appointment and we'll reschedule.

*****The Cowboy Program is another BIG event that I'd like you to mark on your calendars! All my buckaroos will be performing a wild west hoedown on Friday, June 1st at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Our dress rehearsal will be held Thursday May 31st at 2:00 p.m. for siblings. Due to the lack of room, I would like to keep the main performance for parents and grandparents only. More information will be forthcoming. Our Cowboy BBQ will be held right after the program on Friday at Wildflower Park.

*****You are doing a great job as parents with these little buckaroos, and I'm as happy as a fly on a cowpie that they're in my corral this year! YEE HAW!

Always,
Ole' Miyake

*****Looking through our Valentine's Day slide show, I'm filled with love and admiration for all the students, parents, and grandparents in my class. What a gift you are to me. Teaching has been such a big part of my life and after 32 years of experience I'm not tired yet. I can't imagine any other profession as much fun or rewarding. Thank you for your help and support. I had a BLAST today, and I hope you did too! I have one last thing to say......BE MY VALENTINE!

OUR SHERIFF AND HIS BABY SISTER

*****This week's Sheriff is as proud as can be to share the limelight with his baby sister. Happy-go-lucky is a phrase that fits this cowboy, as well as kind hearted. All the cowpokes in our corral love hangin' with this feller! YEE HAW!

We Say The Pledge Every Morning

Here is a long awaited picture of our past Sheriffs. Although they may look like they're fooling around in this picture, during their particular week as our leader, each one tightened their rope and lassoed in those cowgirls and cowboys with a firm hand and a loud YEE HAW!

Take a look at the 2011-2012 Third Grade Spelling Bee Champions! Both buckaroos are in our corral, and we are very proud of them! The pressure was great, but these two cowpokes kept firm in the saddle and didn't fall off! YEE HAW!

OLE' MIYAKE'S PONY EXPRESS

Howdy Folks,

*****HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE! I hope you all had a great time over the holidays with family and friends.
*****We've started off this new year with a BANG! Not only are we writing all of our stories in cursive, but we're also getting ready for the Spelling Bee that will be held in 3rd grade on January 19th. It should be loads of fun for everyone involved. The Spelling Bee word lists were sent home in December. The students have been practicing them in class. Spelling will come from these lists over the next two weeks in school in order to better prepare for the upcoming event.
*****In math, we're concentrating on fine tuning our multiplication skills with some students already moving towards passing off their division facts. YEE HAW! I can hardly keep up with all these smart whipper snappers! Also, geometry is our next unit of study. As we learn about different angles, lines, names of various triangles, solids and plane figures, we will also be using hands on materials to master these objectives. This month is filled with lots of fun and interesting activities dealing with geometry!
*****Willy Wonka Reading has begun with prizes and treats earned for time read at home. The culminating activity will be A CHOCOLATE BREAKFAST! Yes siree! You heard that right! Everything imaginable will be served first thing in the morning...that's my kind of FUN! Remember, the entire sheet needs to be completed by the morning of March 8th. The Chocolate Breakfast will be held on March 16th.

*****Just a reminder that fluency testing is coming up, so have your child practice reading aloud at home. I've asked the boys and girls to find a page in their library books that they haven't read and have you, the parents, time them for one minute as you keep track of any mistakes made. Our goal is to reach 110 words per minute. Most of the students are reaching that goal and then some! Thanks for all your help in this area.

*****The year is moving by so quickly and summer will be here before you know it! I'm having a rootin' tootin' time working with your children and I'm as happy as a fly on a cow pie to be their teacher!

Always,
Mrs. Miyake
